The Surf City Marathon is Turning 25 in 2021

Southern California’s Super Bowl Sunday tradition commemorates milestone anniversary the weekend of February 6 – 7, 2021

HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Surf City Marathon and Half Marathon will celebrate its 25th edition on the weekend of February 6-7, 2021. The race is a convenient destination event with the expo, headquarter hotels, start line, and finish line festival all taking place just steps away from the sand.

The Huntington Beach oceanfront guarantees a mostly flat, fast course, while the perfect seasonal conditions add to the probability of setting a new personal record. More than just a weekend of running, the race welcomes athletes of all abilities, from those looking for a Boston Qualifier at the marathon distance to runners and walkers who are plenty happy enough to finish a half marathon or run a mile on the sand.

Event weekend for the 2021 Surf City Marathon and Half Marathon kicks off with a two-day Active Lifestyle Expo at the main Huntington Beach Parking Lot, across from the Waterfront Beach Resort.

The expo is free and open to the public on Friday, February 5, and continues into Saturday, February 6. All race participants visit the expo to pick up their race bibs and browse over 100 exhibitors featuring free samples, the latest in running gear and sports apparel, as well as a series of interactive clinics.

The running gets started on Saturday morning with the Beach Mile on the Sand. Runners can take the ‘Cowabunga Challenge’ by completing both the mile on Saturday and any distance on Sunday to earn the coveted bonus medal.

The main events take place on Sunday, February 7 with the marathon, half-marathon, and 5k. All race distances start and finish on the iconic Pacific Coast Highway, featuring spectacular views along the route. The coastal course is flat and fast, perfect for a Boston Qualifier, or running a personal best.

After participants cross the finish line, they enjoy a post-race festival with live music, food trucks, and a complimentary beer for athletes 21+. Race weekend truly is one of the biggest beach parties of the year in Orange County and the 25th anniversary is one you won’t want to miss.
