Dr. Bassil Aish, Medical Director
Bassil Aish, M.D., has been the Medical Director for this event since 2002. Specializing in Sports Medicine and Family Practice, he also plays key roles in national research studies relating to sports injuries and training for sport.
Dr. Aish supervises the over 80 health care professionals who work the medical stations along the course and at the finish line. His team includes doctors, nurses, physical therapists, athletic trainers, massage therapists, chiropractors, emergency medical technicians and other certified medical staff.
Dr. Aish has an impressive list of accomplishments. He is a UCLA bred Sports Medicine Physician and Family Physician. Dr. Aish received his degree with honors from the University of California at Berkeley and completed internship,residency and sports medicine fellowship programs at UCLA. Dr. Aish served as a UCLA medical school clinical instructor and team physician for UCLA football, track and field, soccer, and swimming, leaving to work with U.S. olympic national athletic teams and enter into practice in his hometown, Huntington Beach. Dr. Aish also proudly serves as team physician for Goldenwest College and Huntington Beach High School. He is a regular on camera and the Chief Medical Advisor for the Fox Sports Emmy Award winning show "Sport Science". Dr. Aish is a father of two, Quincy and Mia.
Dr. Aish has been recognized for his specialization in running mechanics and speaks nationally on running injuries. He is an experienced, published medical researcher with work in areas including exercise induced asthma, osteoporosis in athletes, supplements in sport, and strength and flexibility training in the young athlete. He is strong believer in the physical, mental, social and spiritual benefits of sport to children and adults of all ages.
